A few years ago, I participated in 3GNY’s We Educate (WeDo) program, which trains grandchildren of Holocaust survivors to share their families’ stories in public schools. Focusing on my Sabba's story, the program gave me the opportunity to engage with the details of his life and the tools to honor his legacy—not just by remembering, but by teaching. Speaking to young students of all different backgrounds and telling his story has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. It has been an experience that has helped make that history real and urgent, particularly at a time when so many seek to deny, distort, or forget.
"In every generation, they rise up against us to destroy us." The line from the Passover Haggadah has always carried weight—but growing up, attending Seders with my Survivor grandparents, those words were more than just ancient ritual. They were central to the story that shaped our family.
My Sabba and Savta each witnessed the complete destruction of their families and communities. After surviving the Holocaust, they were early immigrants to the new Jewish state, helping to build a future even as they carried the unimaginable loss of the past. Their resilience, strength, and faith have been a guiding force in my life.
We are living through a moment of rising global antisemitism and renewed efforts to delegitimize
and erase the Jewish story, making programs like 3GNY more essential than ever.
