Rebecca Weintraub's Story

My grandparents, Ben and Lore Weintraub - my father's parents - were both Holocaust survivors. My Grandpa Ben was from Tarnagrod, Poland, and was one of two survivors of his immediate family. My Grandma Lore, whose story I tell through 3GNY classroom visits, was from Bruschen, East Prussia / Berlin, Germany, and survived three concentration camps alongside her mother. To survive, my grandma had to do things she wouldn't normally have done, at great risk to herself and others. After the war, my grandparents came to the United States, where they met, got married, and raised a family - intent on giving to their children and grandchildren everything that was taken away from them both during the Holocaust.

In light of the recent rise in antisemitism across the globe, it's more important than ever to keep telling these stories - which is exactly where 3GNY comes in. Your support will help enable 3GNY to continue educating students in the New York area by allowing grandchildren of Holocaust survivors to tell their grandparents' stories of survival, resilience, and hope in classrooms and communities for years to come.

As a grandchild of Holocaust survivors who didn't want to share their story themselves, I gladly take it upon myself to tell my Grandma Lore's story to others. If her story impacts only one of the many students I speak to over the years, I'll have considered it a job well done!
