In Honor of Dr. Andrew J Breslin

Nearly thirty years ago, Andrew J. Breslin, VMD, decided on a whim to visit Vieques while on vacation in Puerto Rico with his wife, Pamela, and sons, Luke and Sam. They had a wonderful time, renting a jeep to drive around the island to explore the beautiful beaches, buying fresh donuts still warm from the oven, and dining at Chez Shack and the Inn on the Blue Horizon. They also couldn't ignore the numerous stray dogs and wild horses and goats that populated the island. The family stayed at the Seagate Hotel, where they had the good fortune to meet Penny Miller and her parents. That meeting was the beginning of many of visits that Dr. Breslin made to Vieques to volunteer at the Humane Society. There were countless adventures: suturing a horse at night by the only light available, a camera flash; judging sato shows; painting the newly constructed shelter; and driving through neighborhoods in the back of a pickup truck, announcing through a bullhorn ¡Vacunaciones Gratis!

From his clinic in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, Dr. Breslin directed donations to Vieques Humane Society and sent medical supplies. He told other veterinarians about the opportunity to volunteer in Vieques. On one early visit they adopted their own sato to bring home, the beloved and ironically named Speedy.

Andy would truly appreciate your supporting the Vieques Humane Society in memory of his generosity, sense of adventure, and ability to get a dark tan within a day of arrival on the island.
