At HALO, we believe that every animal deserves a loving home—and sometimes, that means helping people as much as we help pets. This year, your support has helped us rescue lost and orphaned animals, transform “unadoptable” dogs into beloved family members, and—most importantly—keep families together when they need each other most.

Many organizations focus only on the animal, but at HALO, we see the whole picture. We understand that pets are family, and sometimes, people just need a little help to stay together.

This year we were able to help two individuals who came to us in desperation. With no where to turn for help, HALO was able to step in and not only provide care for their dogs, but also meet their needs. This gave the families peace of mind so they had the opportunity to heal and work on themselves. We were able to provide vet care for their dogs, assisted with employment, and even provided short term housing. Once these basic needs were met, the families were able to work to create a brighter future where they and their dogs could be together in their own happily ever after. We would like to introduce you to Wilson and Rob. These two strong, resilient, and determined people truly encompass what it means to Help Animals Lost and Orphaned. They have taught us at HALO what it means to be grateful and not take things for granted.

Meet Wilson and Rob:

🐾 Wilson’s Story:

After losing a loved one, Wilson spiraled into depression and homelessness. The thought of losing her beloved dog was unbearable. Working with community authorities, HALO provided a safe haven for her dog, allowing Wilson to visit every day while she rebuilt her life. Today, Wilson is working full time, and her loyal companion is still by her side—thanks to you.

🐾 Rob’s Story:

Rob lost everything—including his cherished dog. The grief was overwhelming and he became homeless. He found hope in a new canine companion who had suffered trauma as a young pup. They both lived for years in a vehicle depending on no one but each other. When Rob needed help and neither Rob or his companion could no longer live in his car, HALO stepped in to provide care, behavioral support, and a safe place for his dog. Rob visits every day, and together, they are slowly healing. When they are ready they will be reunited to live together forever.

In our community, there is heartache and loss, but there is also hope. At HALO, we open our doors and our hearts, providing not just shelter, but a support system that keeps families—human and animal—together.

HALO’s founder and Executive Director, Regina Willen, is a Neuroscience and Physiology Scientist. She is a board certified applied animal behaviorist (ACAAB) with the Animal Behavior Society (ABS) and is an animal behavior consultant with the International Association Of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). She has extensively studied the behavior of shelter dogs in and out of the shelter. She specializes in creating behavior programs that are practical for shelter staff, volunteers, and the busy family.
