Hello Culver City friends, families, and supporters-

Suicide prevention training saves lives.

As devoted students at CCHS and members of this community, we are introducing a campaign to equip those in Culver City with one of the most valuable tools we can offer: comprehensive suicide prevention training.

Suicide prevention training empowers educators with the knowledge necessary to support others, preparing them to identify warning signs of mental health issues and suicidal thoughts. Early detection is crucial for crisis-intervention in which trained individuals can offer immediate support, fostering a safe environment for those who may be struggling with their mental health. We believe that our community could benefit from more of this.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), for youth between the ages of 10 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death. This means that there is no such thing as being too prepared or having too much training- it is evident that we must act urgently and diligently to address this pressing issue.

Our mission is simple but crucial. We aim to provide teachers, administrators, and others who come in close contact with teenagers with free virtual certifications in suicide prevention methods using the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. The C-SSRS is an evidence-based risk assessment tool that helps train relevant staff in identifying whether a student is at risk for suicide, assessing the severity and immediacy of that need, and helping them receive the care they need with empathy and support.

The funds raised will be used for trainings provided by Brain Health Bootcamp, a non-profit organization that offers a one-hour, interactive suicide prevention program that provides educators with a C-SSRS certification. Each training session costs $25 per person- and our main goal is to reach 140 community members, ensuring they are able to participate in this life-saving course.

We are reaching out to invite local businesses, families, and individual supporters to join us in the mission to increase suicide prevention training in Culver City. Any contribution you make will directly fund these training sessions. The impact of your donation will be shown as support for young teenagers within our community, ensuring that they are able to receive the care they need with both empathy and immediacy.

We understand that donations might not be feasible for everyone at this time. If a financial contribution is not currently possible, there are other ways to become a part of the solution. Please share this campaign with your friends, family, and neighbors so that we can achieve our goal!

Let’s stand together in our efforts to empower those in Culver City with the tools and resources necessary to protect our future- our children. As we strive to empower our youth with knowledge and skills, we cannot overlook the need for increased suicide prevention strategies. The safety and wellbeing of our kids is the community’s biggest priority. Together we can ensure that no one in Culver City feels alone or without support.
