Join us for the first session of reclaiming the rubble, a writing workshop series exploring identity, family, culture, and resistance through an Afghan lens. Hosted at Nabala Cafe on May 9 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, this workshop will center around the theme of migration, displacement, and farewells. Together, we’ll write into the moments of departure that shaped us — the goodbyes & the borders we crossed.

This session will introduce participants to the landay, a traditional two-line Afghan poetic form historically used by women as an act of resistance, survival, and storytelling. We’ll reflect on refugee narratives and cultural memory, and use writing prompts to explore the emotional landscapes of movement, loss, and belonging. No writing experience is necessary — just bring a notebook, a pen, and your story.

The space is open to all, with a special focus on collective reflection and cultural reclamation. Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or simply seeking a space to write and be heard, this workshop offers a gentle entry point into creative expression and community healing.
