Kids Empowered On The Move was already struggling to meet the emergency food needs of hundreds of homeless families living in hotels and car as well as those struggling to get by day to day.  Most homeless families lose their SNAP benefits for a while because they didn't receive the paperwork in the mail.   We already were working on food drives knowing the shortage in resources our community is facing this winter and that was BEFORE it was announced that struggling families would not be receiving their SNAP benefits in November.

Kids Empowered On The Move (KEOTM) serves homeless and struggling families in need throughout Oakland County.

Our most critical service is providing emergency hotel shelter for homeless families — filling a vital gap since there is only one family shelter in the county with just 18 spots.

Each year, KEOTM supports approximately 500 families through a variety of programs, including:

• Emergency hotel shelter for families experiencing homelessness

• First month’s rent and security deposits to help families move into permanent housing

• Adopt-a-Family for Christmas

• Adopt-a-Family for Easter, providing Easter baskets and a family meal from a local restaurant

• Emergency food, clothing, furniture, and household essentials

• Book & Author event for children

• Trunk or Treat event to provide fun and community connection for kids
