San Diego House Rabbit Society is committed to giving every rabbit in our care a safe place to sleep, a healthy diet, plenty of love, and, most importantly, proper medical care.
Each year, we spend around $100,000 on medical expenses for our rabbits—covering everything from wellness checks and vaccines to medications and life-saving surgeries. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QhYTry8W0Gg
Take Pete and Louie, for example:
Pete has had a tough journey. He’s been adopted and returned to us twice, most recently bonded with another rabbit, Louie. Through no fault of their own, both boys came back to SDHRS in poor condition—underweight, dehydrated, and suffering from neglect. Pete had severe fecal buildup and overgrown nails, while both needed immediate fluid therapy and a proper diet.
Now, Pete and Louie are safe in our care, well-fed, and receiving the medical attention they were previously denied. Their story is a reminder of why we have a rigorous adoption process and why we stress that rabbits are lifetime commitments—not just pets for children until interest fades.
Pete and Louie are just one example of the special-needs rabbits we care for each year, in addition to providing routine medical care for all our rabbits.
Thanks to three generous donors, all contributions made by January 14, 2023, will be matched up to $15,000. Your support helps us continue providing for rabbits like Pete and Louie. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.
