Goodfellows / Crusade for Toys
The Goodfellows – Who are they? The Goodfellows Committee is a volunteer group made up of members from the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion (SAL), the American Legion Auxiliary, and additional community volunteers
The Goodfellows - What Do They Do? . For over 80 years, the Goodfellows, in conjunction with the local firefighters, run the Crusade for Toys program—a charitable effort focused on providing toys and assistance to families and children of northwest Ottawa County in need during the holiday season. Each child is provided with new clothing, toys, games and candy. Goodfellow volunteers shop for clothes and specialty items, including hygiene products. Items are then packed in a box for each family. Boxes are distributed to the families through the Salvation Army.
Partners of the Goodfellows - Local firefighters collect toys and monetary donations through the Crusade For Toys program. Collection begins in November and continues for several weeks. Collection boxes are located at local fire stations, local businesses and schools, as well as the American Legion Post 28. The Goodfellows program receives referrals from the Salvation Army, which provides screening to determine eligible families for the program.
Over the years the Goodfellows program has consistently served over 120 families and 350 children in the northwest Ottawa County area. In addition, the program provides toys for the stores of the Salvation Army, Love In Action and the Coopersville Care Center. Each year we anticipate a great need for toys and clothing.
Goodfellows is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and relies on the generosity of our community. Your contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
