Can you image a life where you could not express your thoughts and emotions? Where everything inside you was locked in a vault?
Every day in northern Michigan hundreds of special education students struggle to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions due to cognitive impairments or physical disability. Unfortunately, these students do not receive any arts instruction through their regular school curriculum, unlike their general education peers. Through visual arts, music, dance and the dramatic arts, our trained artists give children the opportunity to create, and the power and encouragement to unlock healthy communication through creative expression.
This is where we come in! The Michigan Arts Access Tip of the Mitten Affiliate works across northern Michigan to ensure access and inclusion in the arts for students and adults with people with disabilities. We need your help with volunteer and financial support to expand our programs in the region, including for our Club Create program for adults with disabilities, our artist-in-residency programs for special education students in special education classrooms, as well as our program to train local arts practitioners to become qualified MiAA Teaching Artists.
DONATE NOW to help break down the barriers to self expression and inclusion in all that our community has to offer.
