Foothold International works to support girls in rural East Africa to overcome the many obstacles in their way of completing school. Globally, programs that target women yield the greatest return in community growth, well-being and economic development. We do this through clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and education. This Includes providing menstrual pads, soap, reproductive education, and violence prevention. All of our projects focus on economic and environmental sustainability. We prioritize projects that are income-generating for vulnerable families, empowering families to be the change-makers in their communities instead of reliance on ongoing outside aid. Each of our projects utilize locally-sourced materials and labor to increase their impact. What we've realized in our work is that families want their daughters to go to school, and they are proud to support them in their education when they have the means to do so. Our geographic focus is rural East Africa because these areas are underrepresented in international aid projects. Our goal is to reach those who would not normally have access to scholarships or community resources.
