This June, people are taking Solidarity Hikes across the country to raise awareness and money for critical racial justice and outdoor access work. Summits in Solidarity is inviting YOU to participate!

This campaign is a unique way for those who hold white and other forms of privilege---privilege that allows us to recreate outdoors---to USE that privilege to reduce others’ socioeconomic barriers to the outdoors.

Take a hike, share a photo of you holding a Summits in Solidarity sign at the top, and ask your followers to join you in making a donation. Make your hike count!

How can I participate?

The Summits in Solidarity hiking challenge officially runs from June 1st to July 15th, with a goal of raising $50,000 by July 15th. You can participate by doing a Solidarity hike with or without a team (teams hike and fundraise together), entering the raffle, sharing about the fundraiser, attending Solidarity Night, or simply making a donation.

Businesses can support by donating raffle prizes or becoming sponsors.

What is the money for?

The proceeds will help fund up to $40,000 in grants to our community partners (all led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, or BIPOC) as well as our anti-racism challenge and administrative costs. We are a volunteer-led organization and work to keep costs as low as possible so that we can put more money back into the community.

How do I do a Solidarity Hike?

Step One: Create/join a team using the button on this page. Teams can have a single hiker or many hikers. If creating a team, include your destination in your team name so it shows up on our summit tracking page. Example: "Sarah's Mount Liberty Team". Set a fundraising goal, and edit your personal page's "story" to share where and why you are doing your Solidarity hike. If you are local to our headquarters in NH's White Mountains, help us cover the NH-48 peaks (see what needs coverage!). Alternatively, pick a smaller peak or one closer to home. If hiking isn't an option, you can take your photo anywhere outdoors!

Step Two: Go for the hike. Many choose to hike on our official "hike day", Saturday, June 29th, but hikes can be done anytime, anywhere. Take a photo at the summit with one of our bandana flags, a cardboard+marker sign saying “Summits in Solidarity”, “Solidarity Not Supremacy”, or another message in support of racial justice and equity. If you are part of a team, take a team photo!

Step Three: Share your hike photo and this fundraising page (or your team's page) on social platforms and email to friends. Tell them why YOU summit in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color impacted by racism and barriers to the outdoors. Ask them to help you reach your fundraising goal. Can I share my photos with Summits in Solidarity?

Yes, please! Upload your favorite picture or 15-30 second video to our Google photo album to be featured on our social media or website. Provide a caption that includes your hike location and a brief reflection on why you summit in solidarity. To do so, add a "comment" to the photo or click on the three dot icon then add a caption to the photo or video.
