2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Shambhala Center in Philadelphia.

To celebrate, and to support our 50th anniversary fundraising campaign, we’ll gather on Saturday, August 9, for a 12-hour Sit-a-Thon at the Center. The day will include sitting meditation, walking meditation, and mindful movement, along with breaks for tea, lunch, and dinner. Participants are invited to join for any portion of the day they wish - an hour, several hours, all day, or anywhere in between.

We hope you’ll join us—on the cushion, in support, or simply in spirit—as we celebrate this milestone together.

Founded in 1975, the Shambhala Meditation Center of Philadelphia is part of a global community that aspires to awaken kindness, goodness and wisdom within society. For fifty years, we have offered opportunities for the practice and study of meditation, contemplative practice, and the arts, as well as a wide range of cultural and social activities that cultivate wakefulness, creativity, personal wellbeing and collective transformation.

We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive community, drawing from wisdom traditions from all over the globe. At the heart of our path are the teachings first offered by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a meditation master in the Shambhala and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
