Our Story: Lighting the First Flame

At the edge of a wild Iowa field, something new is beginning.

Black Butterfly Temple is a nonprofit community sanctuary dedicated to healing, education, and personal transformation. Our work brings people together through reflection, practical life skills, wellness practices, and meaningful community connection.

We are creating a place where people can reconnect—with themselves, with one another, and with the land.

This $30,000 campaign will fund the Temple’s first physical space, allowing us to establish a small office and gathering place on our land in southwest Iowa. This will be the first step toward building a larger retreat and learning sanctuary for the community.

The space will allow us to begin hosting:

• Small group healing retreats
• Self-discovery and mindfulness classes
• Practical life-skill workshops (cooking, sustainability, and resilience)
• Community gatherings and storytelling circles
• Programs that support families and personal wellbeing

It will also allow us to begin creating local jobs rooted in creativity, healing, and education.

This first space is the foundation for everything that follows.
