Aphasia Community Friendship Center (ACFC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aims to provide a safe space and holistic healing for persons with aphasia, a communication disorder that is developed often after stroke or traumatic brain injury. We are free of cost to all participants, and we are the next step of the aphasia recovery process after clinical treatment.
Originally founded by Lynn Chenoweth, ACFC provides person-centered support that integrates a commitment to recovery, relationship-building, and community connection. After a long pause due to COVID-19, our group has re-instated this fall, and we ask for your support to help us set in motion once again.
We meet every Friday from 10:00-1:30 p.m. renting a space weekly in Ann Arbor. We utilize music, art intervention, and conversation activities to facilitate dialogue and strengthen neural connections between speaking, reading, and listening. For example, we lead a music and movement activity each week to focus on motor synchronization, attention, performance and coordination to connect an individual with their own body rhythm, as well as the people around them!
To continue meeting for the long-term and to keep our group running, we need your support. We are so grateful for your commitment to holistic healing for persons affected by communication disorders.
