From Hunger to Hope: How Food Relief Became A Gospel Gateway in Zambia

Project completed!

In Zambia, prolonged drought drastically reduced maize production – their essential crop – creating food shortages that now impact nearly 1 million people. Partnering with Breath of Heaven Worship Center, Aid the Way provided 100 vulnerable families with a month’s worth of mealie meal, a maize-based staple. After attending a church service, each family was given a 50lb bag to take home.

“The need is great as 75% of the people we serve have very little monthly income. They were hopeless and had question marks in their head asking,‘Where will we get our next meal?’” Pastor Katongo shared. “Before we distributed the food, we prayed that God would direct us so we would know who needed it most. They were so very grateful."

To reach families with the greatest need, Pastor Katongo personally went into surrounding compounds distributing coupons redeemable for the mealie meal to both church members and unchurched neighbors. The project met urgent survival needs while creating gospel opportunities. Pastor Katongo then launched a discipleship group for these families, ensuring ongoing spiritual growth and connection.
