Tyler Goodson Memorial Fund

A genuine soul with a giving heart, Tyler Goodson touched the lives of so many—both human and animal—and his legacy of compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Tyler first became involved in rescue in July 2021 when he and his wife, Ashley, adopted their first dog together, Badger, a euthanasia list dog at Clayton County Animal Control (CCAC). Tyler named him Boudreaux the day they met him at the shelter.

Less than a year later, Tyler and Ashley took on another CCAC list dog, this time becoming fosters for Georgia. With their agreement to foster, Hearts ‘n Homes Rescue committed to her.

In the fourteen months Tyler and Ashley fostered Georgia, they became active volunteers with Hearts ‘n Homes, not only bringing Georgia to adoption events but also helping with other rescue and shelter dogs.

After Georgia found her forever home in the fall of 2023, with two dogs of their own to focus on, Tyler and Ashley decided they would take a break from fostering but wanted to continue to help at-risk dogs.

In February 2024, Tyler and Ashley were approached about temporarily fostering three CCAC list dogs for another rescue. Without hesitation, they said yes, and Sugar, Leroy, and Clutch moved into the “Goodson Dog Hotel,” as their family and friends called it.

When it came to caring for these dogs, Tyler volunteered to manage Sugar. She was laid-back and easy-going—a girl after his own heart.

Sugar and the boys stayed with Tyler and Ashley for a month before going into boarding because no long-term fosters were available. In April 2024, an advocate reached out to see if Tyler and Ashley could take in one of the three again, temporarily, as they were all still in boarding. Tyler, of course, chose Sugar.

A couple months later, Leroy also made his way back to Tyler and Ashley. He stayed with them for a few weeks until they were able to find him a foster who has since then adopted him. Clutch went from boarding to an out of state foster home and was then adopted.

Sugar continued to stay with Tyler and Ashley until June 2024 when she went back into boarding.

Sadly, Sugar has remained in boarding ever since. Tyler had been providing her food and even covered her emergency vet bill when she contracted kennel cough. Tyler’s kindness and compassion were evident in everything he did. It was his wish that Sugar find the loving family she so deserves.

In Tyler’s memory, and at Ashley’s request, Hearts ‘n Homes has established the Tyler Goodson Memorial Fund to benefit Sugar. All donations will go towards the maintenance and care of Sugar until she finds her forever home.
