Meet Calvin

Calvin has been incarcerated for 13 years. His daughter is 16, soon to be 17, and he admits he’s missed “about 13 milestones” — graduations, beauty pageants, school events, and simple moments like “dads and donuts.” He left when she was just three years old.

When he heard about the Father-Daughter Dance, Calvin says it meant everything. “It was mandatory for me to participate,” he says. “I’ve missed so much, and this is a chance I can’t let pass by.”

It will be the first time his daughter has ever seen him in a suit. “I think she’ll be happy to see me in something other than prison clothes,” he says. For Calvin, that moment will feel like freedom: “I’ll feel alive.”

More than anything, he wants her to carry this memory with her. “Just the special experience, the time we’ll share, the support and the motivation. I can’t wait,” he says.
