Charity & Todd Wahrenberger's Story

We love Haiti H2O and have been supporting them for a few years now. They are reaching the hardest to reach communities, where many aid organizations do not reach. The have a long standing relationship with the communities they serve, and all of the funds they raise go directly to the work of sustaining the community.  Read more about what this fundraising ride supports below:

Access to clean water is a challenge in rural areas especially in Haiti where less than 50% of rural Haitians have access to fresh water. Haiti H2O has sponsored wells and pumps in two communities and have helped the other two to harvest rainwater with cistern roof systems. Parents in our partner communities have said that this increased access to clean water has not only improved their own health but that of theirs children's. Once communities gain access to clean water, protecting the water supply from human contamination is critical. In rural Haiti, only 1 in 5 people have access to basic sanitation.
Safe and readily available water is important for public health, whether it is used for drinking, domestic use, food production or recreational purposes. Improved water supply and better management of water resources, can boost a community's economic growth and can contribute greatly to poverty reduction, according to the World Health Organization. Our partner communities, knowing the value of protecting their water supply, have sought help in addressing this. Since then Haiti H2O has sponsored four composting toilets in Bassin Caiman and one in St. Martin. Looking to the future St. Martin is partnering with Haiti H2O to build a "Bloc Sanitaire" or school bathroom that will provide flushing toilets and a hand washing station to the students.
Currently over 200 students attend the community’s school and have only four pit latrines to use throughout the day.
Diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio have all been identified by the World Health Organization as linked to contaminated water and poor sanitation. The Bike4Haiti invests in the hopes of rural communities to provide safe water.
