This past year Haiti has experienced political turmoil and civil unrest in the wake of a presidential assassination and earthquake. The resulting economic crisis and extreme food shortages are impacting everyone in Haiti. Haiti H2O: Hope to Opportunity works with local leaders to invest in infrastructure and programs that address the long-term health, education, economic and nutrition needs in each of the villages where we partner.

Haiti H2O: Hope to Opportunity is a development organization based in Pittsburgh partnering to transform hope into opportunity in rural Haiti. Our approach is to take time to listen to local leaders and invest in their ideas, empowering them to make positive change. We currently work with four rural communities in areas such as education, health and sanitation, business initiatives, home construction, and livestock cooperatives . Haiti H2O invests the money raised to impact the lives of people in rural Haiti!

Current projects include:

Completion of a new school building in Meloniere
Quarterly Medical Clinics in Plain Matin and Bassin Caiman
Rebuilding homes destroyed by earthquake and hurricanes in Meloniere, Plain Matin, and St. Martin
Establishing micro-business opportunities in Plain Matin
Livestock cooperatives and farmer training to provide greater economic and food security

In 2021 Haiti H2O started holding a quarterly medical clinic in the community of Plain Matin and expanded to Bassin Caiman in 2022. Each clinic sees an average of one hundred patients from the community and surrounding area. Some individuals walk hours to attend a clinic. Regular mobile clinics can better treat ongoing health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure which are common in Haiti. Left untreated, these conditions often lead to heart attack or stroke. The Bike4Haiti invests in the hopes of rural Haitians to have access to basic medical care. The funds raised will empower our Haitian partners to fulfill their longings for access to healthcare through the quarterly clinics.

This past fall, farmers in our partner community of Plain Matin had a good crop of yams, but they could not get them to their intended market in Port-au-Prince because gangs controlled the roads into the city. They shared this problem with Jeanne, Haiti H2O’s Community Development Director in Les Cayes. Haiti H2O purchased the yams from the farmers, as well as rice, beans and cooking oil, to distribute to families in need in all four of our partner communities. These food kits were delivered to 250 families. Jeanne, reported families within the communities were "very glad to have some food to feed their families".

The Bike4Haiti invests in the hopes of Haitians to have the ability to feed their families. The funds raised will allow Haiti H2O to continue to support this kind of immediate food assistance as well as long-term projects like a corn grinder business, agroecology training and bread oven cooperatives

It may look like an ordinary motorcycle, but for Wilkence Jean it is an opportunity to attend school and still support his family.

Motorcycles are used as taxis all over Haiti. Wilkence Jean will operate the motorcycle as a taxi service while he attends classes at Polyvalent University of Haiti (UPH) in their four year agroecology program. Wilkence Jean hopes to help farmers to increase their crop production and improve environmental conditions in Southern Haiti. Wilkence was separated from his family while he looked for work in the Dominican Republic. After the earthquake, he reached out to Haiti H2O through a past trip participant to see if we could help him move back to Haiti and start a taxi business to support his family while he goes to school.

The Bike4Haiti invests in the hopes of Haitians to have the ability to support their families while pursuing an education. The funds that you raise will allow Haiti H2O to continue to award educational grants and micro-loans.
