This handsome boy is Zazu! He lives in a rural community in Northwest Alaska where the weather is pretty brutal. Zazu has 2 siblings and they all 3 need upgrades on their houses. We are posting for help with Zazu first because this sweet puppy is 11 years old. This guy needs some comfort for his 11 year old body. An elevated, insulated house with a lot of straw will be a big improvement over what he has now.

As you can see his current house leaves a lot to be desired. It is better than nothing but not much.... His family reached out for help because winter is fast approaching and they are worried about their dogs well being. There are limited resources in some of these communities and what is there is usually very expensive.

Zazu is a friendly boy who loves kids and his family. Unfortunately he does live outside 24/7 (we will try to work on that). We would really like to get this family of dogs set up with insulated houses before it gets even colder than it already is.

While we at Straw For Dogs are not of the mindset that dogs should live outside in the cold away from their families, the reality is that many do.

We provide insulated dog houses and straw to dogs living outside in the harsh Alaskan climate. Even with a dog house and straw these living conditions are far from ideal. However, sending these resources are the most immediate action we can take to provide a little comfort to dogs who are suffering in the elements.

We continue to encourage people to bring their dogs inside (at least periodically for love and socialization), walk them, and play with them. We offer supplies to help with this as well.
