Meet Lucky - A 2-year old female, Pocket English Bully

Lucky was found alone on a hiking trail in the California desert in August 2024, suffering from a severe leg injury. The kind people who discovered her took her home and contacted Passion for Pitties rescue. As soon as possible, Lucky was taken to one of our veterinary specialists for a medical examination and x-rays. The x-rays confirmed that Lucky had a dislocated and broken left hip/leg and needed orthopedic surgery. It is assumed that she was hit by a vehicle. Passion for Pitties quickly arranged for Lucky’s surgery to ensure she received the urgent medical care she needed. It seems Lucky didn’t have the best treatment wherever she came from, as she showed signs of past abuse, particularly from males. It is also believed she had puppies about 2-3 months prior.

Lucky's Surgical Expense

Her surgery was successfully completed on August 17, 2024, and she is now recovering in her foster home, where she is doing very well.

The initial x-rays and examinations cost $487, and her orthopedic surgery was $3,800. Additional expenses will be required for her post-surgical care, which includes stitch removal, medications, and follow-up check-ups to ensure her leg heals properly.

Lucky will return to the vet in two weeks for stitch removal, followed by another check-up in 6 to 8 weeks. She will also need to be spayed and micro-chipped. Additionally, Lucky has some crystals in her urine that need further examination. We estimate that these combined costs will reach $5,000.

We made the decision to move forward with her surgery because it was vital for her health and mobility, but it came with a significant cost. Now, we are reaching out to our community for support in recouping the funds spent on Lucky’s care and upcoming costs. Once Lucky recovers and is feeling spry again, she will be available for adoption. Her foster family is caring for her now, and they say she is an absolute sweetheart. She’s been through a lot, but we are confident that she will make a full recovery and be ready for her forever family!
