Award: Three (3) $1,000 awards
Eligibility: Allegany County high school students graduating in 2023, or 2024 with a passion for the arts.
Applicants must:

Reside in Allegany County, Maryland.
Aim to enroll for a career in the arts, including music (instrumental and vocal), dance, drama, creative writing, painting, sculpture, photography, graphic arts, fashion design, television, radio, and film.
Engaged in activities and organizational dealings revolving around the arts,
Have a GPA of at least 2.75 on a scale of 4.0.

Scholarship Details:
The NAACP Allegany County branch has created this scholarship in honor of Alice Darr, a globally renowned jazz vocalist and pianist, was born in Cumberland, Maryland on April 22, 1930. This scholarship is highly prestigious and dedicated to those interested in pursuing their studies in the visual and performing arts. A portion of the application requires the applicant to submit a short video of their performance using a YouTube link, or uploaded portfolio of work. Originals will not be accepted. A.I. Generated or Assisted art is not eligible. We will not consider A.I. text-to-image generated work samples or self-portraits.

Artist’s Statement. Your artist statement should reflect the following question: What drives your passion for art and how this scholarship would help you pursue that passion? Your statement should be a maximum of 500 words in length, Times New Roman font, size 12, typed, double-spaced. Though not a requirement, diversity is a significant factor considered in panel decisions. The NAACP Allegany County branch considers race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability and disability, age, and other factors that shape creative perspective and educational experience when reviewing applications. Entries will be judged by a panel of the NAACP Branch #7007.

The top three (3) applicants will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to assist in continuing their art and sharing it with the world.
