Lani and the Ocean Litter
Have you ever come across a scared, hungry pup and thought, “I wish I could help”? It can break our hearts to see them shy away from human touch, too afraid to trust anyone. Let’s explore how one brave dog, Lani, found hope—and how you can be part of her story.
Meet Lani, a gentle soul who spent three long years wandering the fairgrounds and surviving on whatever she could find—including rocks. Can you imagine being that desperate for food? Thankfully, some kind folks at the fairgrounds noticed her plight and began feeding her. Over time, they earned just enough of her trust to guide her to safety.
That’s when she found her way to our Sanctuary. At first, Lani was terrified. But she soon discovered soft beds, fresh food, and other rescue pups who knew exactly how she felt. Then came the biggest surprise of all: Lani was pregnant. Her fragile condition led to a marathon 23-hour journey to deliver her puppies—a little miracle of an “ocean litter,” each named for the serenity of the sea.
Lani’s road to recovery still has its bumps. Even so, she’s healing more every day, encouraged by the love of her new human family and her newborns. Isn’t it incredible what a little compassion can do? We’ve been by her side every step of the way—keeping her warm, comforting her through vet visits, and helping her raise her puppies so they never experience the loneliness she once did.
Now, I’d love your help to ensure Lani and other dogs like her continue to receive the care they need. Your donation will go directly toward food, veterinary care, and safe, cozy spaces for these animals to call home. By giving—whether it’s a few dollars or more—you’ll be joining a circle of rescuers dedicated to changing a dog’s life forever.
