Life in rural Haiti has always been hard. However, the kidnapping crisis and gang violence have escalated the challenges across the whole country. One impact is the scarcity and high cost of all goods, particularly food, fuel, and medicine. Access to healthcare has always been unreliable—it is now almost impossible for our friends in Haiti to receive the care they need.

“When I have to go to the hospital, I have to go far,” one Haitian mother near Bassin Caiman told us. Most rural Haitians do not have access to a car or public transportation. A taxi ride to the hospital costs almost six times as much as she would earn in one month. And because of the turmoil in Haiti, the cost of taking a taxi has quadrupled.

These transportation challenges, along with the lack of running water and electricity, create unimaginable hardships for Haitian families. Your support of Haiti H2O’s Mobile Medical Clinics in remote Haitian villages helps families stay healthy—and relieves one of the many burdens they face daily.

Our Mobile Medical Team, led by Dr. Sony, travels to our partner communities every three months. They see patients who are sick or hurt and provide routine care for growing children and adults with long-term health problems, like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Another mother from Bassin Caiman, Mrs. Michel, shared how the clinic has helped her family: “The clinic is very important for me and my kids—the last time we came here, they gave us medication for scabies. I would like for the clinic to be open every month.”

Costs for essentials, medication, and travel for the Mobile Medical Team have doubled, or more. In addition, our clinics saw a 30% increase in patients over the previous year, and we anticipate nearly 2000 patients in 2025.
