70% of the women and girls in Latin America lack access to basic sexual health education and care. The Lily Project is working to fix this with CHAVA, the first comprehensive sex education app to provide a safe learning environment with personalized information, supportive community, simple tools and access to expert care for anyone who identifies as or has had experiences as a Latin American woman or girl.

CHAVA was born out of The Lily Project, an NGO focused on cervical cancer prevention and sexual health education in rural Nicaragua. Working for over seven years with women and girls, listening and learning from their stories about the difficulties they face in receiving quality care and answers to even their most basic questions about their bodies, health and sexuality, we understand that the high rates of cervical cancer, teenage pregnancy and early unions have a common cause: lack of access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education and services (SRH).

From crisis comes opportunity! When the pandemic forced its clinics to close, The Lily Project engaged with its 20,000+ clients using WhatsApp and quickly realized the potential to build a mobile-centric educational platform. Lily’s leadership recognized that a new team and business model were needed to focus on creating high-impact digital solutions and a sustainable organization: Welcome CHAVA! The team has recently launched a Beta-version of its mobile app for user testing in Mexico and Nicaragua and is raising funds to further develop and launch the app throughout Latin America.
