A central part of the event will be the presentation of the Honorable John D. Austin Contribution to History Award. Named in honor of the late Judge John D. Austin—respected jurist, historian, and tireless advocate for Warren County’s past—the award recognizes an individual or organization whose work has significantly advanced the preservation, understanding, or appreciation of local history. Recipients embody a deep commitment to research, public education, and community engagement, reflecting Judge Austin’s own legacy.

This year, the award will be presented posthumously to William P. Gates, a dedicated local historian whose lifelong passion for documenting and preserving Warren County’s past enriched the community in countless ways. His meticulous research, generous knowledge-sharing, and unwavering support for historical preservation have left an enduring impact. The Society is honored to present the award to Mr. Gates’s family in recognition of his remarkable contributions.
