Her Story is on a mission to help teens discover what lights them up so they can show up with intention and confidence in every part of life. We provide programs that help teens build a positive self identity through the discovery and development of purpose and intentional social media use. Her Story is a 501c3 organization.

The Problem*

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents, with teen girls facing a complex mental health crisis.

Starting around the age of 13, girls are twice as likely as boys to have clinical depression and high levels of depressive symptoms.

39% of female survey respondents also shared that they had experienced poor mental health in the last 30 days before taking the survey (vs. 19% for boys); and 27% had seriously considered attempting suicide during the past year (vs. 14% for boys).

Some of the triggers of these alarming statistics stem from the fact that half of all teen girls feel the pressure to be perfect.

54% of girls report that online images negatively affect their body image, with 46% of girls reporting that their body image causes them to worry 'often' or 'always' and contributes to body dissatisfaction, which has been linked to risk-taking behaviors and mental health problems.

How We’re Driving Change

We offer a range of programming for adolescents who identify as girls, non-binary, or gender expansive, are between the ages of 12 - 18, and experience the world across diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds. We implement a near-peer mentorship model focused on the development of purpose, a protective factor that gives direction to life, that is vital to individual well-being and helps young people to thrive.

Our flagship offering, #ForMe, is a workshop that teaches intentional social media use, supporting girls’ mental health and mindset. #ForMe School Assemblies will launch in 2026 where we will provide free programming to high schools. Girls In Motion, our annual summit, brings together hundreds of teen girls and their ecosystems of parents, providers and educators for a high impact day of interactive workshops, powerful discussions and inspirational speakers centering mental wellness. We also offer Experience Entrepreneurship, a camp that mentors girls in developing their own sense of purpose while teaching evidence based skills to manage stress and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
