Supporting the health of women and infants
Why Equilact?
Approximately 63% of mother-infant pairs globally do not receive benefits of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF), increasing the risk of gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses in infants (which can lead to death), and, among postpartum persons, increased risk of breast, ovarian, and endometrial cancer, cardiovascular disease, and Type 2 diabetes, all of which contribute to increased disease burden and poor health outcomes.
What will my donation do?
- Allow us to conduct community needs assessments to understand barriers and facilitators to EBF and then develop tailored individual and structural solutions that support EBF among (a) birthing persons, (b) healthcare professionals, (c) communities, and (d) employers.
- Implement interventions, which may include (but are not limited to):
-
- a. Distribution of breastfeeding kits (e.g., breast-pump, cleaning supplies, storage bags, bottles, etc.)
- b. Healthcare provider EBF training initiatives
- c. Funding for the training of community- and health center-based lactation support (e.g., training, social support, milk storage)
- d. Training and incentivization packages for employers to become “breastfeeding friendly” organizations
- e. Provide feedback to communities and policy-makers to effect long-lasting change based on data
