Five-year-old Emmy loved being at our children’s outreach. She would be one of the loudest on her team shouting out “Dieu est vivrant!” (“God is alive” in French). Its the name of her team at our game time. She seemed happy. Full of life. But as happy as Emmy was, this sweet child was still exposed to the detriments of living in a poor village in West Africa. We can't begin to tell the full story.

One day she caught malaria. Her mom couldn’t afford to pay for the medicine. And it was difficult to get help. Treating her would have been only about $20 (USD). She didn’t get treated. She passed away at 3 pm and was buried at 8 pm, the same day. One cannot fathom how a precious life could be sacrificed for what many may call pocket change. It seems like the life of a poor child didn’t matter.

When Joy, one of our prayer and financial supporters, heard about Emmy's story, she believed that the life of a poor child did matter. God placed a burden on her heart to act. Joy wanted to help raise funds for medical emergencies like Emmy’s. She has pledged to provide monthly support and rally ten friends to join her in this effort.

Additionally, pray for the families in the village to gain the education and resources needed to prevent and fight the common illnesses they face daily.
