This year, I’m stepping into the Hyrox competition on February 7th with a different kind of goal. I’m not chasing a podium spot or a personal record. I’m racing for something bigger: to raise $5,000 for Shriners Children’s Portland, a place that gives kids the chance many never get.

I’ve had the privilege of being a big part of my nephew’s and niece’s lives. Watching them grow, learn, play, and chase their dreams has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. They are healthy, supported, and surrounded by love. I want nothing more than for every child to have that same opportunity to grow strong, to dream freely, and to step into any future they choose.

But the truth is, not all kids start with the same hand. Some battle diseases, injuries, or physical disabilities. Some face barriers that keep them from the care, treatment, or support they desperately need.

It is heartbreaking not just to see a child suffer, but to know that in our own country, many families are blocked by cost, insurance limitations, or system failures that prevent kids from getting the help they deserve.

That is why I’m fundraising for Shriners Children’s Portland.

Shriners changes lives. They provide world-class pediatric specialty care including orthopedic treatment, physical rehabilitation, prosthetics, burn care, and more, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Their team helps children walk, run, play, and live full, joyful lives. They support families through some of the hardest moments they’ll ever face. They make sure that a child’s future isn’t defined by the limitations of their body or the limitations of the healthcare system.

Every dollar donated helps a child get the treatment, therapy, equipment, and support they need to thrive. Every donation helps protect the futures of the kids who need us most. Every contribution moves us closer to building a world where every child gets their chance.

On February 7th, I’ll be pushing my body through the Hyrox course with one thing in mind: the kids who fight battles far harder than anything on the race floor.
