But, with 69% of parents reporting that affording summer camp is hard, that's not always a reality. It's no wonder that in summer the average child loses 2.6 months of academic skills and spends on average 7.4 hours alone. If that wasn't bad enough, summer brings a drastic increase in child abuse, with a third of Texas children experiencing food insecurities--these problems amplified for families experiencing financial hardship.

We want to change that; at Camp CommUnity (CU) we believe all children should be afforded the opportunity to succeed in life beyond the classroom— no matter what. So, when school’s out, we kick in to make sure every student has access to a high-quality, enriching, and FUN summer camp experience. In 2023 of the 363 students served, 297 were scholarships offered to students facing financial barriers. But-- it wasn't enough. With 31% of Wimberley Valley families living 150% below the federal poverty line, 103 students were waitlisted, a problem we're hoping goes away for Summer 2024.

What camp means to a child:

SAFETY: 2700 minutes of supervision and engagement
BASIC NEEDS MET: 10 hot, balanced meals and 10 snacks provided weekly
CHANCE: 15 hours of academics in ELA, Math, STEM, and Art, + 350 minutes of physical activity
HOPE: for their future by learning new skills and through exposure to new activities and careers
CONNECTION: the chance to connect with peers + others in their community

We believe community is at the heart of Camp CommUnity and that when a city unifies to serve together, support each other, and invest in our youth, we grow stronger today--and tomorrow. Our Wimberley Valley kids need your help now more than ever. Our goal is to provide 450 scholarships to Wimberley Valley students this summer.
