Shut Down Supplement

Traditionally we have been primarily an adoption agency but in the past year we have shifted our focus to support all pregnant people, regardless of their plan to create and adoption plan or parent. A big part our the current work that we do is providing food to expecting parents and their children. For many of these families, we have filled the gap left after they have exhausted their benefits.

Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to buy food may be affected as soon as November if the ongoing government shutdown continues.

In a letter to state agencies dated Oct. 10, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said there will not be enough funding to pay the entirety of November SNAP benefits if the shutdown continues.

We would like to get ahead of this. We currently work with 30 families and provide anywhere from $250 - $300 a month is food assistance. We would love to have an additional $8940. This would allow us to replace the average food stamp amount ($298) for November. It's not a huge amount but for some, it is everything.
