My name is Courtney Capogrosso, and I am a widow and former NFL wife who founded One Yard at a Time, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing unique NFL experiences for widows and their children, reminding them that they are not alone.

We firmly believe in the strength of community to help widows and their children transform trauma into opportunities for post-traumatic growth, where limitless possibilities await. One Yard at a Time is a tribute to my late husband, Matthew, a devoted member of the New York Jets for 15 years, who was also a loving father to our young twins.

This initiative honors Matthew and all those who have faced loss by teaching our children resilience, strength, and the importance of embracing life, even in challenging times. It focuses on giving back and guiding others through their struggles, much like the NY Jets helped me rediscover my joy. With the support of the NY Jets, I learned the vital role of community in taking crucial steps forward and felt inspired to extend that same support to others experiencing similar heartache.

Our mission extends far beyond merely taking widows and their children to a football game; we are building an essential community that connects widows who truly understand one another’s journeys.
