Twenty years ago, South Carolina Black Pride was born out of a simple but radical belief: our community deserves to be seen, celebrated, protected, and loved—out loud and without apology.

At a time when Black LGBTQ+ people in South Carolina were often pushed to the margins—even within the spaces meant to serve us—South Carolina Black Pride created something revolutionary: a place of belonging. A movement rooted in culture, visibility, advocacy, and joy. A home.

Over the last two decades, South Carolina Black Pride has grown far beyond a single event or weekend of celebration. It has become a lifeline. A platform. A promise.

We have provided safe spaces for people finding their voice for the first time.
We have uplifted Black LGBTQ+ artists, leaders, and organizers.
We have promoted health equity, HIV education, and access to care.
We have celebrated our culture while advocating fiercely for our lives.

In moments when silence felt easier—and safer—South Carolina Black Pride chose courage.
