My name is Allison. I have suffered from anxiety and depression for much of my 28 years of life. It’s something I kept hidden from my family and friends. I was embarrassed and felt worthless so I kept it to myself. Severe migraines, anxiety and panic attacks left me bed-bound and suffering in silence.

Anyone reading this can relate to holding onto things from our childhood. No one knows how many times I have been let down and sat in my room and cried, fighting battles no one knows about. Having your heart ripped out by the ones you trusted most is a vicious blow. The pain is deep and it feels like a pit I can’t climb out of. I look at myself in the mirror and my reflection is unrecognizable.

In the beginning I managed to work through most of these episodes; until recently when their frequency increased to the point where I would shut myself away for days and sometimes weeks on end. The experience has been terrible. I am nauseous. I can’t sleep. My heart pounds. I cannot function to go to work or even leave the house.

I hate what I am becoming. My world is crumbling into pieces.

It is difficult to put on a happy face and pretend everything is ok, when truth is, it’s not. I need to be able to function, not only for me but for my six year old daughter. It’s time for treatment and to break this cycle so that my daughter doesn’t have to see her momma suffer and we can both live a happy and healthy life.

I have been fortunate to find an inpatient treatment facility that could take me immediately with Discovery Mood and Anxiety. It is so hard being away from my daughter, but I am determined to work hard in my healing process so that I can get home.
