For my birthday, I am doing something different. I am raising donations for The Apricity Hope Project.
In August 2024, I spent 3 nights at the Apricity Hope Project retreat and to say it changed me is an understatement. This retreat takes care of medical mamas, helps us connect, recharge, find ourselves and so much more. They feed us, they spoil us, they help us on the path of acceptance and healing. I came in curious and slightly skeptical but desperate for help. Because being constantly overwhelmed is exhausting. I have no words to describe how profound this experience and the friendships I forged with the other moms was for me. This non profit does good work. I promise you it does. Check them out. Peruse their website. Donate to them if you can. Yes, even if you’re Canadian you can donate. I will go back. I have no doubt of that. To give back to Susan and her vision is my top priority. So if you love me and would love to see me smile as I finish up my 48th trip around the sun next month, I ask you consider making a donation to this wonderful organization. Any amount makes an impact. Thank you.
The Apricity Hope Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides mental, physical and emotional support to families with disabled and/or medically complex children who are facing life limiting conditions.
AHP serves families and children's hospitals across the USA with:
- Hospital go-bags for parents in the pediatric ICU with their children
- Seasonal care(giver) packages
- An internationally listened to podcast, When Autumn Comes, that provides connection and virtual community to families who are isolated both logistically and emotionally.
- Restorative, inclusive retreats for caregiving mothers. Guests of these retreats travel from across the country to attend retreats that are anywhere from one to four days long. AHP's retreats provide respite care that focuses on the mental, physical and emotional health of the mom, beyond being a caregiver. Retreats are hosted at the Apricity Hideaway in Norfolk, VA
Apricity means "the warmth of the sun in the winter". Created and founded by Susan Geoghegan, a medical mom who has two children with mitochondrial disease, the Apricity Hope Project first handedly knows that being a caregiving parent of a medically complex child/children can be a dark, cold and isolating season of parenthood. AHP believes that in order to truly care for children who are facing big, scary medical battles we must care for the parents who are navigating this journey alongside them. With the support of the community, together we can be the light, the warmth and the hope for families who are living lives they never expected to be living.
