At Guided Path, we walk alongside individuals and families in East Tennessee facing advanced-stage cancer diagnoses — journeys that often turn lives upside down in an instant.

We recently met a young family of five. The father, once a strong, steady provider, now faces stage IV cancer. The mother carries the weight of it all — working long hours to keep the lights on, comforting their three small children who don’t fully understand why dad can’t play like he used to, and driving her husband to countless appointments.

They’re now facing eviction because cancer stole their financial stability. Rent fell behind as she missed work to care for him. They are not alone: many of our clients can’t afford groceries to fill their pantries, gas to reach life-saving treatments, or critical car repairs that stand between them and hope.

Another client, given only a few months to live, was told he would lose his state health coverage because he was $740 “over” the asset limit. In the final chapter of his life, he’s forced to fight yet another battle — this time, just to keep his insurance and maintain his dignity.

These are not distant stories. These are our neighbors — people you might pass at the grocery store or sit beside at church.

A cancer diagnosis doesn’t just attack the body. It attacks stability, dignity, and the very sense of home.
