• Public schools are required to hire licensed teachers. Private schools aren't.

• Public school budgets are approved by voters. Private school budgets aren’t.

• Public schools welcome every student. Private schools can pick and choose.

This imbalance is not just unfair—it’s undemocratic. That’s why we founded Friends of Vermont Public Education: a grassroots coalition of former school board members and educators who believe that public education is the bedrock of a healthy democracy. If a school receives public funding, it should be held to public standards. Period.

We started with no money, no staff—just seven committed Vermonters determined to make a difference. Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve made our voices heard in Montpelier. Our mission is now recognized in the Statehouse and beyond.
