Pathways to Progress: Building Communal Wealth for Boston's Middle Grade Youth is a celebration of our collective achievements and an opportunity to support Apprentice Learning's ever-expanding array of career possibilities for middle-grade youth!

Speakers

Porsha Olayiwola is the founder of the Roxbury Poetry Festival, and was the 2021 artist-in-residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, as well as a 2020 poet laureate fellow with the Academy of American Poets. She is the author of i shimmer sometimes, too.

Rahn Dorsey is a researcher, policymaker and strategist whose career has focused on systems change and civic innovation. At the Eastern Bank Foundation, he plays a key leadership role advancing approaches to economic mobility and inclusion, as well as guiding the Foundation’s efforts on measurement, evaluation and learning. Prior to joining Eastern, he served as the Chief of Education for the City of Boston, having worked as part of Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s cabinet from September 2014 to November 2018.

Shantel Mercedes is an Apprentice Learning Alum and first-generation college graduate. Her 8th grade internship at JP Knit & Stitch led to another internship at Brigham & Women's Hospital where she gained experience in health equity, administration, and DEI. Shantel went on to earn her Bachelor's in Public Health & Health Equity and a minor in Sociology from Mills College, and a Master's in Public Health from Simmons University.
