This year has stretched too many of our community members far beyond what should ever be asked of them.

Under the current administration, cuts to safety nets and harsher enforcement policies have fallen hardest on criminalized survivors and their families, deepening financial strain, instability, and pushing many of our beloveds back into survival mode after they have worked so hard to create stability for themselves. Too many of our community members are being faced with impossible choices this holiday season.

In light of this, At The Center is keeping our end-of-year offering simple, tender, and close to our hearts. We’re gathering resources to make sure a small group of criminalized survivors can share holiday gifts with their children and meals with their families this season. Two partner organizations have stepped in with self care packages for the kids’ parents and caregivers, so every dollar we raise will go directly toward these gifts and toward sustaining the healing and leadership work we’re growing for the year ahead.

Most people do not know that up to 86 percent of women in prison are survivors of sexual and/or intimate partner violence. When we talk about criminalized survivors, we are actually talking about parents, caretakers, leaders, neighbors, artists, healers and beloved community members who deserve care, dignity, and joy.

At The Center was born from the strength, wisdom, and leadership of people with firsthand experience of the intersections of interpersonal and carceral violence. Our work is grounded in the belief that safety, dignity, and belonging are sacred birthrights. With your support, we can continue creating spaces where criminalized survivors and sex workers can heal, lead, and build new ways of justice and community care.
