Sankofa's Choice: Giving Tuesday

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking Baltimore to stand with the children who are to often unseen — until the moment everything changes.

For many of us, moving is exciting. We plan. We pack neatly. We choose what to bring.
But for thousands of youth in Baltimore, that’s not their reality.

Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night by a stranger.
Imagine being told you have ten minutes to pack your entire life — into three trash bags.

No warning.
No voice.
No dignity.

This is what removal looks like for many youth in out-of-home placement, and this year alone, more than 20,000 children nationwide will enter care under these circumstances. In Baltimore City, these removals are often fast, traumatic, and destabilizing — and the trash bags only deepen that wound. 

Sankofa’s Choice was created to change that.
We restore dignity at the moment trauma begins. And we keep going — into schools, communities, and eventually into the lives of justice-involved youth who deserve healing more than punishment.
