At Fisk University, music is more than an art form, it is a legacy of excellence, resistance, and cultural preservation.

In 1871, the original Fisk Jubilee Singers set out with nothing but their voices and a mission: to save their school. Their soul-stirring songs gave birth to Nashville’s nickname “Music City” and placed Fisk at the heart of America’s musical heritage.

Today, that legacy endures, but our instruments have not. Many of our pianos are over 80 years old, in disrepair, or beyond restoration. Without instruments that match their talent, our students are unable to hear their best selves.

We are changing that.

The Fisk University All-Steinway Initiative is a bold $2 million campaign to become the first HBCU in Tennessee to earn the prestigious All-Steinway School designation. This transformative investment will replace outdated pianos with world-class Steinway and Spirio models, ensuring that every student can learn, rehearse, and perform on the best.

With the support of alumni, music lovers, and visionary donors, we will:

Elevate Fisk’s music program to new heights,
Empower the next generation of composers, educators, and performers,
And preserve the legacy of excellence that has defined Fisk for over 150 years.
