The Colegrove Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the life and legacy of Laurie Colegrove, a woman whose career in the radiology department of a small community hospital in northwest Oklahoma reflected her lifelong commitment to service. She began her work as an X-ray technician and later served as a transcriptionist, dedicating herself to the care and well-being of others. Laurie faced significant health challenges, including renal failure that required long-term dialysis. Her life was profoundly extended by the selfless gift of a kidney from her brother, John Blagg—an act of love that granted her thirty more years with her family. Her strength, compassion, and steadfast presence were a guiding force for her son, Dustin Colegrove, DO (OSU-COM Class of 2009), and a deep influence on his path into osteopathic medicine. Having grown up in a small Wyoming town before settling in northwest Oklahoma, Laurie understood firsthand the critical shortage of qualified physicians in rural and medically underserved communities. Together with her husband, John Colegrove, she placed a high value on education. As a first-generation college student, Dustin received unwavering support from his parents throughout his academic journey and into medical school. Laurie’s quiet encouragement helped shape not only a physician but also a compassionate advocate for osteopathic medicine and rural health. This fund stands as a tribute to Laurie’s enduring impact and to all parents whose sacrifices and support make it possible for their children to pursue education and a life of service. It reflects the spirit of osteopathic principles—empathy, whole-person care, and community connection—and seeks to empower the next generation of physicians to bring compassionate care to the communities that need it most.
