For the past five years, Asheville had a thriving Montessori school in the city public school district for preschool through fourth graders. My kids were lucky enough to attend the school where they cultivated a deep love of learning.  However, in December 2021 the city school board voted to close the school, despite overwhelming community support to keep it open. Out of the sorrow and frustration with the school closing, many dedicated volunteers banded together to develop a different Montessori school option that would be available to as many children as possible. I joined the board of Mountain City Public Montessori in August and have been honored to work tirelessly with this group.  In August of 2023,  Mountain City Public Montessori will open with 106 students.  I am proud to help bring high-quality free Montessori education to as many children as possible in Asheville.  I believe that the Montessori curriculum has the power to teach all kinds of learners to not only succeed academically, but to cultivate a life-long love of learning.  

We still have a lot of work to do before the school opens next fall.  Can you please help us build the only public Montessori school in Western North Carolina?
