Montgomery Sky Farm in Leicester, NC is home to Final Run Rescue, a 501c3 charitable organization that was damaged by Hurricane Helene. Located just outside of Asheville, North Carolina, our bucolic home was impacted during the storm.

The 50 acre, working farm lost all their produce and suffered damages we have yet to calculate. The property is home to dozens of rescued animals that graze the pastures and live out their final years here on the farm.

Final Run Rescue, led by Taylor (an Executive Chef) and Fran Montgomery (a farmer and animal rescuer and caregiver), in response to our community’s devastation, are launching the "Appalachia Restore and Rescue" program. This program includes traveling to communities throughout the Appalachian areas and feeding meals to people and pets in need, as well as repairing and rebuilding Montgomery Sky Farm, a farm that welcomes thousands of visitors a year, hosts educational programs for families and provides a home to Final Run Rescue.

Unlike centrally located food aid, we are traveling to more remote towns who have received no government aid as yet, including Burnsville, Bakersville, Black Mountain and Swannanoa. As towns cry for help, we are going to continue these efforts as long as we can receive the resources to provide for them.

What exactly are we doing?

We are traveling up to five hours every day to each town preparing meals, cooking fresh produce and setting up a remote kitchen at each location we visit. We then break down, clean up and prepare for the next location. Along with food, we bring supplies such as fresh produce, proteins, fruit, and culinary equiptment to prepare hot, wholesome meals. We also bring pet products that are freely distributed to those in need.

What are the funds for?

We hope to keep providing meals and pet/human supplies to communities in need for as long as our resources allow. The farm needs fencing materials, shavings, new gravel for roadways that were washed out and resources that were identified prior to Hurricane Helene to expand our rescue operations. With the loss of our produce fields and tourism halted in Asheville for the foreseeable future, we aim to continue our mission. We also took in several injured animals during the storm. We hope to be able to expand our rehabilitation program to serve both small and large animals in need at Montgomery Sky Farm.

Thank you from our FRR and MSF families for your kindness, generosity and support as we work to rebuild the community we call home.
