Please join us for a unique talk by Mike Solomon about the Solomon’s Art School and growing up in the Solomon House, which was located a stone’s throw from our Clubhouse. Mike will share photos from the Solomon archive about life in the Maine Colony, his parents' social lives, and his father’s art school in their home on Phillippi Creek.

The doors to this event will open at 6:30 p.m. for meet, greet, and refreshments. The slide show and talk will begin at 7:15 p.m. sharp. Mike has gone through his family’s archives and pulled out some stunningly beautiful photos of mid-century life in the Maine Colony. In many ways, the Solomon house (adjacent to the Clubhouse) was the heart of the bohemian art scene in Sarasota.

This is a unique opportunity to see historic photos and hear Mike Solomon tell stories of his youth growing up in the neighborhood and talk about his father’s art and the art school located a stone's throw from the Clubhouse. Syd Solomon, Mike’s father, was Sarasota’s foremost abstract expressionist at the time and continues to be a revered part of Sarasota’s visual arts heritage.

Mike Solomon is a contemporary artist based in Venice and represented in New York City. He also administers the work of his father, Syd Solomon.

Tickets for this talk are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
