In the coming months, students at The Next Door's two local alternative high schools hope to add a new offering to their curriculum: art therapy. We need your support to help bring these important programs to our students.

The Klahre House, located in Hood River, serves youth in foster care, offering an alternative educational experience that includes curriculum and counselling services. It also provides students with a sense of real community as they work towards a positive education, which provides them with critical skills needed to live proactively in their community. The Klahre House builds confidence in youth, their ability to learn, their self-worth, and breaks down cultural barriers through a variety of education and enrichment activities. Your donations will support Hood River's Underground Music with providing students with instruments and professional instruction, giving them a chance to connect with others and ground themselves through music and the creative process. Lessons will be adapted for each youth and include therapeutic-based goals tailored to their strengths, learning style, and unique needs.

Kelly Avenue School, located in The Dalles, offers flexibility to enhance the educational, emotional, and social needs of its students by providing counseling services and skill development. Kelly Avenue School's art project will give students the opportunity to flex their creative muscles, express feelings, and explore different art mediums. Through photography and fabric decorating, students will work with a professional artist for six weeks, learning and growing every step of the way. These experiences will help students express feelings in a new way and learn valuable coping skills. Funds donated will support art supplies and an artist in residence.

The Next Door, the Gorge’s largest human services 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, serves approximately 3,000 Gorge residents each year with programs that support and empower. The organization’s alternative schools, provide personalized education and treatment for teens who struggle in mainstream schools for a variety of reasons.
