Imagine:
- Carrying a roll of toilet paper everywhere with you
- Leaving school or work early or missing it all together because you might have to use a restroom
- Being teased for accidentally smearing blood from a cut on your clothes
- Being handed squares of toilet paper for the first time without explanation for how to use them
Sounds PREPOSTEROUS right?
Yet, everyday in the NY/NJ metro area, people who get periods:
- Carry pads and tampons in emergency period kits because they are not freely available
- Miss hours or days of school and work because they can’t leave their homes without a way to manage their periods
- Are shamed if they bleed through their clothes
- Misuse period products because they are not taught how, resulting in health risks
These situations are why I dedicate my time, skills and resources to Girls Helping Girls. Period to advance menstrual equity.
Girls Helping Girls. Period works to create safe environments that meet our respective basic health and bodily needs; destigmatize conversations about our bodies and bodily functions; and empower us to take care of ourselves.
Be our partner and make the world a better place for everyone and future generations!
