Landfill Tree Planting Event 2.21.2026

Join POP and the UNCW POP club for a fun morning of planting trees earned in 2025 through our Trees4Trash initiative !! The trees from this initiative have mostly been planted at the New Hanover County Landfill and with over 2,500 trees now planted here, we have established what we call “Fran's Forest,” a 5.3 acre virgin forest located at the NHC landfill on two uncapped mounds.

Come out and volunteer! Can't attend? Consider making a donation instead!

We are encouraging volunteers to bring their own gardening tools if they have them! Please wear pants, close toe shoes and bring a reusable water bottle.

Volunteers will be split up into three different areas: tree planting, measuring trees, and land maintenance.

Where: New Hanover County Landfill (5210 US-421, Wilmington, NC 28402)

When: February 21st, 10am to 1pm

Please follow the map for parking!

IMPORTANT:

Any volunteer under the age of 16 is REQIRED to be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Please read: Plastic Ocean Project's Activity Waiver and Liability Release Form.

*A hard copy of the Liability waiver is REQUIRED to be signed in person before participating in the cleanup
